(PET) SCAN – ROCKHAMPTON BASE HOSPITAL

The community in the southern part of my electorate has an aging population. Unfortunately, with age comes significant health issues; some of which require medical imaging including PET scans.

PET scans are not accessible in the Rockhampton region.

Our community members are being referred to Mackay, Bundaberg or Brisbane.

Whilst a set travel subsidy is available for these patients, this is a long-term solution. My community members are being disadvantaged with respect to healthcare.

The Mackay Base Hospital offers PET scans to its community members. The resident population in Rockhampton as of 2021 was estimated at 122,785. The Mackay region had a similar resident population of 123,183. I understand PET scans are available at Bundaberg through privately owned I-Med Radiology. It is noted that Bundaberg’s population in 2021 was recorded as 94,667, some 28,000 residents less than that of Rockhampton.

PET scan facilities within the Rockhampton Base Hospital. Please sign and share the petition.
